A visual series giving ordinary objects the compositional weight and attention usually reserved for monuments — asking, precisely, what it means to find something important.
Thing That Matter is a visual philosophy exercise disguised as still-life rendering. Each work selects a single everyday object — the kind of thing a person would walk past without registering — and renders it at a scale and with a degree of formal care that demands the viewer stop. The question the series poses is not sentimental: it is analytical. By what mechanism do we assign significance to objects? What is the relationship between attention and value? Would a different quality of looking reveal that the most important things are already here, already ordinary? The images do not answer these questions, but they create the precise conditions under which they can be genuinely felt rather than abstractly considered.
